Simple Ingredients, Big Flavours
What makes these Nutella Banana Bites so irresistible is the harmony of just a few simple ingredients. Each component plays a key role in delivering a flavour-packed bite:
- Puff pastry – Ready-rolled puff pastry ensures a buttery, flaky texture that rises beautifully in the oven. Keeping it chilled until just before use makes handling easier and prevents sticking. If you love puff pastry, try some savoury quick recipes like Salmon Puff Pastry Cups or Avocado Mousse and Salmon Tartare Vol-au-Vent for more fast, indulgent ideas.
- Nutella – Rich, creamy, and chocolatey, Nutella pairs perfectly with banana to create a luscious, indulgent centre. A teaspoon per bite is enough to balance the flavours without overflowing.
- Banana – Soft yet firm bananas add creaminess and flavour, contrasting perfectly with the crisp pastry. For a fun twist, you could swap bananas with strawberries or other firm fruits.
- Egg wash – A simple mix of egg yolk and milk gives the pastry a golden, glossy finish.
- Icing sugar – A light dusting adds a touch of sweetness and makes each bite look irresistible.

How to Make Nutella Banana Bites
Prepare the Puff Pastry
Preheat your oven to 200°C / 400°F, convection mode on, and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle measuring about 36 x 24 cm (14 x 9½ inches). Cut it into 12 equal squares, roughly 8 x 8 cm (3 x 3 inches).

Make the Pastry Cuts
On each square, make four small cuts, about 2 cm (¾ inch) long, starting from the middle of each side and cutting towards the centre. These cuts will create the corners that fold over the banana and Nutella. Use any leftover puff pastry to cut out small star shapes. Brush with egg wash and bake alongside the Nutella Banana Bites for cute extra treats or decorative accents on your dessert plate.

Add the Filling
Place 1 teaspoon of Nutella in the centre of each square. Peel the bananas and cut them into 6 pieces, each about 2.5 cm (1 inch) long. Place one banana piece on top of the Nutella.

Fold the Corners
Take the two corners of a pastry cut and pull them towards the banana, covering it from the sides.

Repeat with the corners from the opposite side. Then fold the remaining corners over the banana so it is fully enclosed. Gently pull the corners outwards to form a star-like shape. Transfer the filled pastries to the prepared baking sheet.

Brush and Bake
In a small bowl, mix the egg yolk with milk and brush generously over each pastry. Bake for 13–15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden. Every oven is different, so your baking time may be slightly shorter or longer – keep an eye on them for perfect results.

Finishing Touches
Remove from the oven and let the bites cool for a few minutes. Dust with icing sugar just before serving, and enjoy warm for the best gooey, chocolatey experience.

Why We Love Nutella Banana Bites
These bites strike the perfect balance between indulgence and simplicity. The crispy, buttery pastry pairs beautifully with the soft banana and creamy Nutella, creating a treat that’s satisfying without being overpowering. They’re also highly versatile – you can add chocolate chips, a sprinkle of cinnamon, or chopped nuts for extra flavour and texture.
Unlike desserts that require hours of preparation, these bites are fast, foolproof, and consistently delicious, making them perfect for both everyday treats and special occasions.

Perfect for Any Occasion
Whether you’re serving them for breakfast, an afternoon snack, or a simple dessert, Nutella Banana Bites are guaranteed crowd-pleasers. They’re especially delightful during the winter holiday season, perfect for festive gatherings, family celebrations, or as a sweet addition to a brunch or dessert spread.
Storage & Reheating Tip
Store leftover bites in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2–3 days. To enjoy them warm and restore their crispiness, reheat in the oven at 160°C / 320°F for 5–8 minutes – the pastry will be golden and flaky again, almost like fresh from the oven.
You can also freeze the prepared bites before applying the egg wash. When ready to bake, simply brush with the egg wash and bake from frozen. Baking time may be slightly longer, so keep an eye on them until they are puffed and golden.

Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 200C / 400F with the fan on. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
Roll the puff pastry into a neat rectangle measuring about 36 x 24 cm (14 x 9½ inches). Cut it into 12 equal squares, each approximately 8 x 8 cm (3 x 3 inches). On each square, make four cuts, each about 2 cm (¾ inch) long, starting from the middle of each side and cutting inwards towards the centre.Use any leftover puff pastry to cut out small star shapes. Brush with egg wash and bake alongside the Nutella Banana Bites for cute extra treats or decorative accents on your dessert plate.
-
Place 1 teaspoon of Nutella in the centre of each pastry square. Peel the bananas and cut them into 6 pieces, each about 2.5 cm (1 inch) long. Place one piece of banana on top of the Nutella.
-
Take the two corners of a pastry cut and pull them towards the banana, covering it from the sides. Then take the two corners of the opposite side of the cut and pull them towards the banana as well, covering it. Repeat with the remaining cuts so the banana is covered in pastry. Gently pull the corners of the pastry outwards to create a star-like design and transfer the filled pastry to the baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining pastry, Nutella and banana.
-
In a small bowl, mix the egg yolk with the milk. Brush the egg wash generously over each pastry. Bake for 13 to 15 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly. Dust with icing sugar just before serving and enjoy while warm.

Note
Puff Pastry: Use high-quality, ready-rolled puff pastry for the best rise and flakiness. Keep it chilled until just before cutting to make handling easier.
Banana: Choose firm bananas that are sweet but not overripe. Too soft and they can make the pastry soggy during baking.
Nutella: A teaspoon per bite is perfect for balance. Too much can leak during baking.
Cutting and Folding: Make sure the cuts are evenly spaced and don’t go all the way to the centre. This helps the corners fold neatly around the banana.
Baking: Use any leftover puff pastry to cut out small star shapes. Brush with egg wash and bake alongside the Nutella Banana Bites for cute extra treats or decorative accents on your dessert plate.
Egg Wash: Brushing the pastry with egg wash ensures a golden, shiny finish. For extra shine, you can brush a second thin layer halfway through baking.
Baking: Bake for 13–15 minutes, or until puffed and golden. Every oven is different, so your baking time may be slightly shorter or longer – keep an eye on the pastry to avoid over-browning.
Serving: Best served slightly warm so the Nutella is gooey. Dust with icing sugar just before serving to avoid it melting into the pastry.
